A Kindle for my preschooler?

I've long since abandoned reading books in paper format. I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I love it. I have access to less expensive books (generally), on-demand. I can read in the dark. When I did midnight- 4 a.m. feeding with my daughter, it was awesome to have something else to do while she ate.

But I still buy board book and hardcovers for my children.

I've been rethinking this. First, my son is almost out of shelf space. I need to either buy another set of shelves or store his books elsewhere, in which case he won't have access to them as easily.

Second, schools in my town introduce tablets and laptops in elementary school. Having a Kindle for my children would teach them the basics of how to use a tablet: respect, care, charging it, clicking options, opening applications.

I do not want the e-reader to turn into another screen for them to stare at, but to read books, I don't think it's a bad option. As much as I love mine, a Kindle Paperwhite won't work. My children enjoy the color illustrations in their books. We're going to get a Kindle Fire.

Amazon offers a subscription to FreeTime Unlimited. Parental controls, access to books and learning apps, and a free month so we can try it out!

I'm planning to make it my 3-year-old's Easter present.

The Call

I love reading stories about writers who get the call from an editor or agent when their book is going to be published. In my writer groups, this telephone call is referred to as "The Call." This differs from the dreaded "R," which is a letter of rejection. So without further ado... my story! I had heard that HRS was increasing their word count and I had assumed that when I heard back about my book, it would be either a rejection or another request for revisions to make the book longer. #TBRCHALLENGE October 2021 - Gothic

 For this month's #TBRCHALLENGE the theme is Gothic. I actually had to look this up in Amazon and turns out I didn't have a single book in my TBR that matched the description. I went ahead and ordered A Lesson in Thorns by Sierra Simone. (Which negates the purpose of the challenge, I know, but I was intrigued by the theme and wanted to stick with it). I have read this author before and enjoyed her. This book was a bit different and I would not classify it as a romance, more like a paranormal mystery with some kink tossed in. There are four books in the series. Thornchapel is a mystical ruin that six children find one summer. When they are reunited as adults, they decide to participate in a ritual together. Where I got lost is understanding why these people made these decisions and seemed to have intense feelings about their relationships, even though most hadn't been in touch since that summer.
